On this page

Short answer: create a bt_live_ key in Blueticks, add one blueticks entry to mcpServers in ~/.claude.json or a project .mcp.json, and restart Claude Code. The nine Blueticks tools then appear on their own.

This page is the setup only. For what to do with it (a ping when a build finishes, a yes/no before a deploy), read Claude Code on WhatsApp.

Can you connect Claude Code to WhatsApp?

Yes. Claude Code runs the @blueticks/mcp package as a local MCP server. The package reads your API key from its environment and talks to the Blueticks API, so Claude Code can read chats and send or schedule messages from your own number. It needs a Blueticks account with a WhatsApp engine connected.

Claude Code uses the API-key path. The hosted connector at https://api.blueticks.co/mcp signs in with OAuth instead, and is the route for Claude and ChatGPT. Both are described on the hosted WhatsApp MCP page.

How do you set it up? Four steps

  1. Create a key. Open the Blueticks API page, click Create key, and copy the bt_live_ value straight away. Blueticks shows it once.
  2. Add the server. Put this in ~/.claude.json (all projects) or a .mcp.json in your project:
JSON
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "blueticks": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@blueticks/mcp"],
      "env": { "BLUETICKS_API_KEY": "bt_live_your_key_here" }
    }
  }
}
  1. Restart Claude Code. The Blueticks tools become available automatically.
  2. Check it. Ask: "Using Blueticks, list my five most recent WhatsApp chats." Claude Code should call the chats tool and answer from your account.

These steps match the MCP docs and the hosted MCP page. Keys are described in the authentication docs.

Which tools does Claude Code get?

Nine: chats, contacts, groups, scheduled_messages, audiences, campaigns, webhooks, engine and utils. Together they cover 46 actions on a standard account. The scheduled_messages tool sends or schedules text, media and polls, and lists, edits and cancels them.

How do you keep the key safe?

Treat it as a password. Per the authentication docs, do not commit it to source control or expose it in client-side code.

  • Prefer ~/.claude.json over a project .mcp.json, because a project file is easy to commit by accident. If you use .mcp.json, add it to .gitignore.
  • Rotate it by creating a new key, switching over, then revoking the old one in the dashboard. A revoked key returns a 401 on every request.

FAQ

Does Claude Code need the hosted connector URL?

No. Claude Code runs the npm package with an API key. The connector URL is for clients that sign in with OAuth, such as Claude and ChatGPT.

Which WhatsApp number does it use?

The one you connected to Blueticks. Messages go out from your own number, not a business API number.

Where do I go for the Cursor version?

The same entry works in Cursor's MCP settings. See Cursor on WhatsApp.
