Send a WhatsApp Poll with Claude and See Who Voted (2026)
On this page

You asked the family group where to eat on Saturday. Four people answered in four different ways, one of them with a thumbs-up and no name, and now you are scrolling to count.

A WhatsApp poll fixes that, and Claude can send one for you. With the Blueticks WhatsApp MCP connector, Claude can send a poll now or schedule it for later, and then read the votes back: how many people picked each option, and who. The prompt below makes Claude show you the poll before it goes out, because a poll in a group reaches real people.

How does Claude send a WhatsApp poll?

There are two routes, and both take the same poll: a question, between 2 and 12 options, and an optional "allow multiple answers" switch.

RouteTool and actionWhen it goes out
Send nowchats, action send_message_pollImmediately, not queued
Send now or laterscheduled_messages, action send with a pollAt send_at, or right away if you give no time

The limits are in the tool definition. The question can be up to 255 characters, and each option up to 100. A scheduled message carries exactly one kind of content, so a poll cannot also carry text or a file. If you want a sentence above the poll, send it as a separate message.

Claude picks the route from your wording. "Send a poll" goes out now. "Send a poll tomorrow at 18:00" is scheduled.

What do you need before you start?

A linked WhatsApp number in Blueticks and the connector added to Claude. If you have not done that, how to connect WhatsApp to Claude covers it. The connector URL is https://api.blueticks.co/mcp and you sign in with OAuth.

The full list of tools is in the WhatsApp MCP tools guide.

Claude reads chats and sends through the engine connected to your account, so that engine has to be online.

The prompt: send the poll after you approve it

Paste this into a normal Claude chat and change the group, the question and the options:

Using Blueticks, find my WhatsApp group "Family" and send a poll in it. Question: "Where do we eat on Saturday?" Options: "Pizza place", "Lebanese", "Home, I cook". One answer per person. Before you send, show me the question, the options and the group name, and wait for my yes. Do not send anything else to the group.

Behind it, Claude makes these calls:

  1. Find the chat. chats runs search for the group name and returns its chat id.
  2. Pause. Claude reads the poll back to you and waits.
  3. Send. send_message_poll posts it, with allow_multiple left off for one answer each.

To schedule it instead, add "send it tomorrow at 18:00". Claude checks the date first and then uses scheduled_messages with a send_at time.

How do you see who voted?

Ask for the results in plain words: "Who voted in the Saturday poll, and for what?"

For that, Claude needs the poll message's key. It finds the poll in the chat's messages and passes its waMessageKey._serialized to chats, action get_poll_results. The result has:

  • a vote count and the list of voters for each option;
  • the vote of each person. If someone changed their answer, only their latest vote counts.

A sample answer, with invented names:

Saturday dinner: 5 votes Pizza place: 3 (Noa, Eli, Dana) Lebanese: 1 (Yoav) Home, I cook: 1 (Tamar) 2 members of the group have not voted.

The last line comes from a second step. The results only list voters, so to name the people who did not vote, Claude compares them with the group's member list (get_participants). Ask for it by name: "and tell me who has not voted."

What if a poll was scheduled, not sent?

A scheduled poll has no WhatsApp message key until it goes out. The key appears on the message once the engine has sent it, and Claude can read it by getting the scheduled message by its id. So ask for results after the send time.

To change a scheduled poll, note that update edits only the text, the media and the send time. For a different question or different options, cancel it and schedule a new one. Both are in the same tool, so say "cancel the poll for tomorrow and schedule this one instead."

What if a vote cannot be read?

Sometimes WhatsApp reports a vote that the engine cannot match to an option. The tool marks those votes as not decoded and counts them separately. The right way to report it is "voted, choice unknown". Ask Claude to keep them in the total, not drop them, so your count of people is right even when your count per option is short.

What can go wrong?

  • The engine is offline. Sending and reading both go through your connected engine. Check the engine status in Blueticks, reconnect WhatsApp, and try again.
  • Two chats with the same name. Claude works from the chat id. If you have two groups called "Family", ask Claude to name the id it will use.
  • A poll that is too long. A question over 255 characters or an option over 100 is rejected, and so are fewer than 2 options or more than 12.
  • Asking for results too early. Votes come in over hours. Ask again later, and the count will be higher.

Is it safe to let Claude send polls?

A poll in a group reaches everyone in it, and it cannot be taken back. The tool that sends it is one of the connector's sending tools, so treat it like any other send. Anthropic's custom connector guide says that during Research, Claude can use connector tools without further approval, so do this in a normal chat instead. When Claude asks for approval, read the group name and the question before you allow it, and avoid "Allow always" for a connector that can send messages.

The line "wait for my yes" in the prompt is a request to Claude. In a normal chat, your approval of each call is what stops an action.

To send the same message to a list of people instead of a group, see scheduling WhatsApp messages from Claude. To check later that a scheduled message went out, there is the daily check with Claude. Plans and prices are on the pricing page, and you can start free.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude send a WhatsApp poll? Yes. With the Blueticks connector, Claude can send a poll to a person or a group, now or at a time you choose, after you approve the call.

How many options can a poll have? Between 2 and 12. The question can be up to 255 characters and each option up to 100.

Can Claude tell me who voted for which option? Yes. It reads the poll's votes and returns a count per option, the voters, and each person's latest vote.

Can Claude tell me who did not vote? Yes, in a group. It compares the voters with the group's member list. Ask for it in your prompt.

Can I edit a poll that is already scheduled? Not its question or options. You can change the send time, or cancel it and schedule a new one.
